Highly absorbent alginate dressing
•Highly absorbent
Areas of use
Melgisorb can be used for a wide range of moderately to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds such as pressure sores, venous and arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites and post-operative wounds. Infected wounds should be evaluated on a regular basis and treated appropriately.
Note: Melgisorb is not indicated for dry wounds, third degree burns or surgical implantations.
How Melgisorb works
Melgisorb absorbs large amounts of exudate, 18 times its own weight. When absorbing, the alginate fibres form a soft moist gel, giving a moist environment conductive to wound healing. The gel also blocks lateral wicking of exudate thereby reducing maceration. The soft moist gel does not adhere to the wound site, thereby reducing trauma and pain during wear and dressing change. The gel can easily be removed by irrigating with normal saline.
Design
Melgisorb is made of soft alginate fibres formed into a nonwoven material.
Assortment
Melgisorb is available in 5x5, 10x10 and 10x20 cm. Melgisorb is also available as a 32 cm cavity filler.
