The Myths and Reality of Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne

You’ve most likely come across perfume types such as Eau de Parfum (EDP), Eau de Toilette (EDT), and Eau de Cologne (EDC) when shopping for perfume – but why do perfumes and colognes have these labels and what do they mean?

Myth: EDP, EDT, or EDC - all the fragrances are the same.

Reality: This is probably one of the most common misconceptions people have about perfumes. EDP, EDT, and EDC are different categories of perfume according to their concentration of perfume oil. EDP has a higher concentration of perfume oil than EDT and EDC, which results in a longer-lasting fragrance. 

Eau de Parfum

Myth: All fragrances last the same amount of time before you need to re-apply.

Reality: EDP has the second-highest concentration (15% – 20%) of perfume essential oil, making it longer-lasting than EDT. For this reason, you don’t need to apply as much perfume or re-apply as often.
